Driveways, Walkways and Interlock
A driveway and walkways that look sharp, drain properly and survive Ontario winters.
Driveways, Walkways and Interlock in Toronto and across Ontario
Driveways fail from below. Freeze-thaw cycles, poor drainage and thin bases cause the cracking, heaving and sinking homeowners see after a few winters.
We build asphalt, concrete and interlocking paver driveways, walkways, front steps and patios on a properly excavated and compacted base, graded to move water away from your home. We request utility locates before every dig and confirm any municipal approvals for curb cuts or widening.
Harborline Sterling Construction Inc. is principal-led. One of our co-founders, Mansoor Alam Khan or Maqsood Mohammed, oversees every project, so decisions get made quickly and you always know who is accountable.
What driveways, walkways and interlock includes
Every project is different, but these are the parts of the work we take responsibility for.
Asphalt driveways
Removal of the old surface, excavation, a compacted granular base and hot-mix asphalt, with clean edges and proper slope.
Concrete driveways and walkways
Reinforced concrete with control joints, in broom, exposed aggregate or stamped finishes, cured properly for winter durability.
Interlocking pavers
Paver driveways, walkways and patios on an engineered base, including permeable pavers that let rainwater soak into the ground.
Steps, borders and low walls
Precast or natural stone steps, borders, edging and garden walls, built level and stable.
Drainage and grading
Slopes, catch basins and channel drains that move water away from your foundation and off your driveway.

Read articleFrequently asked questions
Which lasts longer: asphalt, concrete or interlock?
All three can last for many years when the base is built properly. Asphalt costs less up front and needs periodic sealing, concrete is durable but needs proper joints to control cracking, and interlock is easy to repair and adds curb appeal. We help you weigh cost against appearance and upkeep.
Do I need a permit to widen my driveway?
Often. Widening a driveway, adding a curb cut or paving more of a front yard usually needs municipal approval, because the curb and boulevard belong to the city, and many municipalities limit front-yard parking. We check before quoting.
Why do you request utility locates?
Ontario law requires locates before digging, and requesting them is free. We request them through Ontario Dig Authority, formerly Ontario One Call, before every excavation.
When can a driveway be installed?
Most driveway work is done from spring to late fall, when the ground is not frozen and asphalt and concrete can be placed and cured properly.
Can interlock help with drainage?
Yes. Permeable interlocking pavers let rainwater pass through to the base and soil, which reduces runoff.
