Accessible Home Renovations
Stay safely and comfortably in the home you love, at every stage of life.
Accessible Home Renovations in Toronto and across Ontario
Many Ontarians want to stay in their homes as they age or as mobility changes. Small changes, such as grab bars and better lighting, help a lot. Larger ones, such as a curbless shower or a main-floor bedroom, can make independent living possible.
We plan accessible renovations around the person who will use them, and we work with occupational therapists when you have one. From ramps and railings to barrier-free bathrooms, wider doorways and main-floor suites, the result should look like a beautiful home, not a hospital.
Harborline Sterling Construction Inc. is principal-led. One of our co-founders, Mansoor Alam Khan or Maqsood Mohammed, oversees every project, so decisions get made quickly and you always know who is accountable.
What accessible home renovations includes
Every project is different, but these are the parts of the work we take responsibility for.
Barrier-free bathrooms
Curbless showers, grab bars with proper blocking, comfort-height toilets, roll-under vanities and slip-resistant flooring.
Entrances and ramps
Ramps, level thresholds, wider entry doors and covered landings, designed for safe use in winter.
Doorways and circulation
Wider doorways, lever handles, turning space and removal of tripping hazards throughout the home.
Main-floor living
A main-floor room converted into a bedroom or suite, or a new main-floor bathroom, so stairs become optional.
Stair safety and lifts
Handrails on both sides, better lighting, and preparation for stair lifts or home elevators installed by specialist suppliers.
How the work runs
The same disciplined backbone we use on every project, adapted for this kind of work.

Do you work with occupational therapists?
Yes. An occupational therapist's assessment helps us design around real needs, and we are happy to coordinate with yours.
Can you install a stair lift or home elevator?
We prepare the space, including structure, power and finishes, and coordinate with specialist suppliers who install and certify the equipment.
Are there grants for accessibility renovations?
Some government and community programs help with accessibility costs, and eligibility and funding change over time. We can help you gather the quotes and details an application needs.
How long do accessibility renovations take?
Grab bars and railings can take a day. A barrier-free bathroom usually takes a few weeks. Ramps and main-floor suites vary with size and permits.
Will it look institutional?
It does not have to. Good accessible design uses the same quality finishes as any renovation, with safety features built in discreetly.
