Building across Ontario: what to know
Permits and approvals
Every Ontario municipality runs its own building department, and upper-tier counties and regions manage many roads and services. Conservation authorities, the Niagara Escarpment Commission and, near provincial highways, the Ministry of Transportation can add their own permits. We confirm the approval path for your site before we price the work.
Site conditions and logistics
Distance changes the plan. We set up travel, accommodation and supply logistics early, prequalify local trade partners, and plan for regional climate, from heavier snow loads in the snowbelt to shorter building seasons in the North.
Ontario Building Code
The 2024 Ontario Building Code took effect on January 1, 2025. We work with your designers to make sure drawings, barrier-free design and life-safety systems meet the current Code.
Winter construction
Frost, cold-weather concrete, temporary heat and shorter days affect cost and schedule. We plan for the season from the start, so winter never becomes a surprise.

Principal-led

Responsive
Calls returned promptly, questions answered the same day where possible, and problems raised early, while they are still cheap to fix.
Frequently asked questions
Do you really work anywhere in Ontario?
Yes, for projects that justify the travel. Our core area is the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and Simcoe County. Beyond it, we review each project's size, schedule and logistics and tell you plainly whether we are the right fit.
How do you staff projects far from Toronto?
A Harborline Sterling principal and project lead manage the job, and we prequalify licensed, insured local trade partners for the work on site.
Can you build while my business stays open?
Yes. We phase work, control dust and noise, schedule disruptive tasks after hours where needed, and keep your staff and neighbouring tenants informed.
What kinds of projects do you take on across Ontario?
Commercial construction and build-outs, home renovations, basements, additions and outdoor projects, and infrastructure work such as paving, sidewalks, lighting and parks.
